MUSIC FOR THE MIND
Music lessons are run by Marianna Moioli to develop a child’s ear beginning with listening games (sounds related to images – animals and nature, urban spaces and transport) leading to differentiating different instruments and their timbre.
Movement plays an important part in these activites so children can “hear” with their bodies and begin to use their voices later on in the programme. As the children grow, activities develop from guided listening (pieces taken from classical music matched to a story that helps them listen on more levels and make out melodies, harmonies, structure and instruments) to games that are sung. In Primary School children can join the BBSchool choir where intonation is developed through specially chosen pieces. Music analysis (through songs or dance) links transversally with maths, whilst reading musical notes develops reading skills.
Activities focus on group or pair work developing each child’s creativity by working with others.
